HICKSVILLE, NY (CBSNewYork) - After three straight years of declining ridership, the Long Island Rail Road appears to be staging a comeback.

LIRR officials credit an improved economy and the mild winter weather for five straight months of ridership increase, but daily riders say they think it's all about soaring gas prices.
"I believe it's the price of gas," said one.
"It's a gas inconvenience," said another. "Parking, driving in Manhattan is nightmare."
One rider even added, "I get to take a nap."
LIRR officials also credit the Giants' Super Bowl win, as ridership doubled on the day of the parade.
Last year, the LIRR fell behind the Metro-North Railroad as the nation's leading commuter rail system.
