LIRR Plans Non-Stop Express Service From Penn Station To The Hamptons
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Good news, beachgoers.
The Long Island Rail Road is announcing plans for the first non-stop express service direct from Penn Station to Westhampton Beach this summer. The ride will take 94 minutes.
The service will run Friday afternoons with return service Sunday evenings.
"No changing trains at Jamaica with luggage, no subway ride to Hunterspoint, just get on the Cannonball," LIRR President Helena Williams told reporters at Penn Station, including WCBS 880's Peter Haskell.

Trains will depart from Penn Station at 4:07 p.m. on Fridays and run nonstop to Westhampton. From there, the train will continue eastward, making stops at Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton and Montauk.
On Sunday evening, trains will leave Montauk at 6:37 p.m. and make local stops to Westhampton. The train will depart Westhampton at 7:39 p.m. and run express to Jamaica before arriving at Penn Station at 9:33 p.m.
"This move should make for a smoother, hassle-free trip for Manhattanites," Williams said. "Manhattan to Montauk without changing trains and express from Penn to Westhampton."
Riders are encouraged to purchase their tickets before boarding to save money. One-way tickets are $19.75 off-peak and $27.00 for peak trains from New York City. The on-board fare is $26.00 off-peak and $33.00 for peak travel.
For an extra $20, beachgoers can reserve a seat and be served drinks and snacks.
The train, known as Cannonball, previously left from Hunterspoint Station in Long Island City.
The service will begin on May 24, just in time for the summer beach season.
