LIPA In Court To Try To Get Class Action Lawsuit Dismissed
HAUPPAUGUE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - The Long Island Power Authority is seeking to get a class action lawsuit filed by some customers tossed.
As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, the lawsuit was brought by about a million angry customers who were without power for weeks in the aftermath of superstorm Sandy.
Sandra Weiss of Oceanside said she lost power for 14 days following the storm.

"The number one thing to remember is we were not in the flooded area," Sandra Weiss of Oceanside told Hall.
Weiss said she and her husband went to a hotel after day 8 because there was no communication with LIPA as to when their power would be restored.
"Here we are without power, we have no way to get ahold of LIPA," said Weiss. "How can you have a major public utility with what I call no disaster plan?"
The lawsuit is seeking compensation from the utility for losses due to the power outage.
The plaintiffs' attorney Alex Schmidt said some customers lost hundreds of dollars but others - like the Weisses - lost thousands of dollars because of the cost of the hotel.
A LIPA spokesperson said they do not comment on pending litigation.
