Lin's Agent: Return To Knicks Not Assured; Raptors In Mix?
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Knicks interim head coach Mike Woodson wants to see Jeremy Lin back next season. The soon-to-be restricted free agent has even admitted he owes "a lot" to New York.
Would that include a hometown discount? Hassle-free contract talks? Lin sounded as if his return was a slam dunk earlier this month, but he changed his tune slightly after the Knicks' playoff ouster when he said, "Nothing is set in stone."
Lin's agent, Roger Montgomery, continued to set the stage for free agency in an interview with the New York Post. He told the paper that negotiations with New York aren't expected to be as easy as advertised.
"I don't expect that. We're not anticipating that's going to happen," Montgomery said. "We don't have assurances of anything."
Extending Lin is reportedly among the top items on Knicks owner James Dolan's to-do list. The team can match any offer for Lin, and it seems they may end up having to make that decision. The Post reported Toronto "will be one suitor" for the phenom.
"I know history shows most restricted free agents go back to their team, but I'm not going to assume anything," Montgomery said. "We're waiting to see what happens."
Previously reported by the New York Daily News, point guard Steve Nash would be the first option for the Raptors. If Nash falls through, Toronto might offer a back-loaded contract to Lin "and hope that the Knicks would not match," according to the paper.
