3 injured, including infant, in multi-car crash in Linden, N.J.

Three people were injured in a multi-car crash that shut down a street in Linden, New Jersey, on Monday afternoon.

Surveillance video appears to show a dark Jeep SUV speeding down East Linden Avenue just before 3 p.m. The Jeep passes other slower-moving traffic. Then not one but two police cruisers are seen with their flashing lights right behind that vehicle.

Witnesses said the Jeep went around a red pickup into oncoming traffic and collided with a sedan, causing it to spin all the way around and crash into a parked car.

The driver of the SUV was quickly arrested, police said.

One of the passengers of the red truck said he saw the whole thing unfold.

"Before we knew it, the black Jeep hit us on the driver's side," John Cieri said. "I was the passenger in the vehicle and then a Jeep struck the little Honda head on."

Police say inside one of the vehicles was a young child strapped in a car seat. The infant was critically injured and rushed to the hospital, as were a man and a woman who were also in the car.

"It seems as though the baby got ejected from the seat because they took the seat out, put it on the floor on the street," witness Joanne Legair said. "The baby seemed to be okay, but the mother or the adult in the car seemed to be very wounded."

The collision left four mangled vehicles scattered across the roadway and brought investigators to the residential block for hours. One woman's car was smashed during the impact.

"It's really the least of my worries. I'm really hoping that the baby and everybody who was involved is okay," Natalie Evertsz said.

Investigators said the circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation.
