CBS2 Exclusive Video: Police Pursuit Ends With 3 People Arrested Inside Lincoln Tunnel
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police temporarily shut down the Lincoln Tunnel South Tube to New York on Friday night, while pursuing a minivan they say failed to stop for a state trooper.
New Jersey State Police say the trooper tried to pull over the Mercury Villager heading north on the eastern spur of the Garden State Parkway in Newark shortly before 8 p.m. for an undisclosed violation.
Troopers followed the minivan onto the New Jersey Turnpike, but then backed off once it blew through the tolls and sped into the tunnel, authorities say.
Port Authority police took over the pursuit, ultimately arresting three people who were inside the van. They say charges are pending.
CBS2 shot exclusive video as officials brought two of the suspects into the Port Authority police station. One of them, clearly agitated and disheveled, cursed as he walked in with his hands behind his back and his pants falling down, Jessica Layton reported.
The South Tube reopened about an hour later around 9 p.m.
