NEW YORK -- Lincoln Center is urging New Yorkers to spend summer in the city with a little dance.

The Oasis opened Wednesday night with a performance by the Eddie Palmieri Salsa Orchestra.

Lincoln Center will be hosting free events all summer long at the Oasis, which is the city's largest outdoor dance floor, featuring a 10-foot, 1,300-pound disco ball above the iconic fountain.

"Like the name, 'The Oasis,' it conjures up a respite for the spirit, a place to sort of ground ourselves in celebration," said designer Clint Ramos.

"If you're the best dancer in New York, if you're the worst dancer in New York, you are welcome here at Lincoln Center. Come dance with us. Be a part of our summer," said Lincoln Center president and CEO Henry Timms.

Summer for the City runs through Aug. 14 with over 300 events on 10 outdoor stages. For more details, visit summerforthecity.org.
