Lincoln Center Announces Completion Of Major Redevelopment Project
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - Lincoln Center marks the completion of a six-year, $1.2 billion redevelopment project with the opening of a new pedestrian bridge spanning West 65th Street.
The 83-foot-long President's Bridge will be dedicated at a ceremony on Monday. Mayor Michael Bloomberg will attend the dedication ceremony, according to the mayor's office.
The bridge is named for Reynold Levy, who has led Lincoln Center throughout the project, according to a news release from Lincoln Center.
The span connects the upper level plaza of the Rose Building, the Walter Reade Theater and The Juilliard School to the public spaces, concert halls, theaters and restaurants on the south side of Lincoln Center.
As part of the redevelopment project, more green spaces and restaurants have been added to Lincoln Center's 16-acre campus. New digital signage has also been installed.
Alice Tully Hall was also completely renovated as part of the years-long overhaul project.
Lincoln Center said the entire project was completed on time and on budget.
The bridge will connect an estimated five million visitors a year to event spaces on either side of West 65th Street, according to Lincoln Center.
Lincoln Center says it sells about 3.2 million tickets a year and generates more than $3.4 billion for New York's economy.
