On Thursday, a front-end loader was out on the tracks filling a truck with gravel and fixing problems down the line.
"We'll have to repair eight bridges. We'll have to repair fifty washouts," said Metro-North President Howard Permut. "In my 30-plus-year career in public transportation, this is the worst damage I have ever seen."
He says that, starting Monday, trains will run from Port Jervis.
"These trains will connect to Harriman with express bus service to train service at Ramsey Route 17, where NJ Transit trains will take people to Hoboken, Secaucus, and Penn Station," he said.
There will be 17 trains a day between Port Jervis and Harriman.
He said it is still too early to tell when full train service will return to the line.
