Limited Flights Resume At JFK, LaGuardia And Newark Airports
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Local airports started to see some activity Saturday morning after a blizzard forced airlines to cancel thousands of flights.
Airlines at John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports began resuming some flights at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Several runways were closed overnight at Newark Liberty International Airport due to white out conditions. The airport opened Saturday morning but commercial flights didn't start taking off until about noon, the Port Authority said.

Flights are expected to resume at Stewart Airport in the afternoon.
The Port Authority had deployed extra personnel overnight to plow snow off runways and taxiways. Crews also applied anti-icing chemicals to runways and taxiways to keep them free of ice.
Passengers who became stranded at the airport were provided with cots, blankets and other essentials.
MacArthur Airport on Long Island which was closed Friday afternoon is expected to reopen at 6:59 p.m. Saturday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Logan International Airport in Boston was also closed was expected to be closed until 11 p.m. Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn., was also closed, but had been set to reopen at noon.
Most airlines will be operating on a reduced schedule Saturday. Travelers are urged to check with their carriers before heading to the airport to find out if their flight is cancelled or delayed.
