Overturned Tractor-Trailer Snarls Long Island Expressway In Both Directions In Nassau County
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Traffic ground to a virtual standstill for several hours on the Long Island Expressway Wednesday afternoon after a tractor-trailer overturned, spilling gravel across the lanes.
The accident forced the closure of the LIE in both directions from Exits 33 to 32 at around 1:30 p.m.
WCBS 880 reports the LIE has reopened both ways.
CBS2's Joe Bierman from Chopper 2 reported that Wednesday afternoon's commute will be measured in hours and not miles.
Secondary roads and Northern Boulevard are gridlocked. There are westbound delays from Jericho Turnpike and bumper-to-bumper eastbound all the way back to Woodhaven Boulevard.
