LI Woman Charged With ID Theft, Accused Of Stealing From Mentally Disabled Patient
BAY SHORE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A home health aide in Suffolk County was arrested for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from a mentally disabled patient she was caring for, police said.
The Suffolk County Police Identity Theft Unit announced the arrest of Noreen Hanney on Thursday, after finding that she allegedly used her job as house manager at the Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities Inc. (ACLD) in Oakdale to steal a patient's identity.
According to police, Hanney, 38, used one of the resident's debit card numbers to make payments on her car and buy plane tickets to Florida. She's also accused of withdrawing cash multiple times from ATMs.
The alleged identity theft went on from June to September of last year before Hanney changed jobs, according to police.
Hanney, of Bay Shore, is charged with first-degree identity theft for the theft of more than $3,000. She is due to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
