Report: 'Joe' Halderman, Producer Who Tried To Blackmail Letterman, Lands New Gig
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The former television producer who spent months in jail for trying to blackmail David Letterman in 2009 has a new job.
Robert "Joe" Halderman, a former producer for "48 Hours Mystery," is now a producer for Investigation Discovery's "On the Case with Paula Zahn," TVNewser has learned.
Halderman was released from Rikers Island on September 2, 2010 for good behavior, four months into his six month term. He pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny and admitted he demanded $2 million the year before in exchange for his silence on David Letterman.
Letterman, who had married his longtime girlfriend about six months before, in response revealed on-air that he'd had sex with women on his show's staff.
The disgraced producer was nominated for an Emmy but did not attend the ceremony, despite being released from prison before the award date.
His lawyer said Halderman's scheme was fueled by both financial problems and romantic jealousy, as he had read in his former girlfriend's diary an account of her relationship with Letterman, her employer at the time.
Halderman is not expected to work in the field for "On The Case."
