"I've modeled it on how she looked in 1945, with a sort of two-toned paint scheme," says Diment.

The model of the Intrepid is 22-feet-long, weighs 550 pounds and is built out of 250,000 LEGO pieces.  Diment said it is the largest model he has ever built.

"The reason it's so big is it's built to the scale of the little LEGO people. We've got ones with all kinds of sad faces, happy faces, even hung over ones. The captain with his beard and glasses, the whole thing," says Diment.

The model will be on display through September and is free to viewing with museum admission.

The Intepid Museum was also recently selected by NASA to receive the space shuttle Enterprise.
