Legislature Passes Death Penalty Repeal In Conn., Goes To Governor's Desk
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Connecticut legislature has voted to repeal the state's death penalty.

The House of Representatives voted in favor of the bill 86-62 on Wednesday. The bill passed in the Senate last week. It now goes to Gov. Dan Malloy, who has said he would sign it into law.
The bill would abolish the death penalty and replace it with a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of release. It would not affect the sentences of the 11 inmates already on Connecticut's death row.
In a poll last month, Conn. voters said they did not want to see the state's death penalty repealed, with 62 percent saying it would be a bad idea.
Connecticut has carried out only one execution in 51 years, when serial killer Michael Ross was administered lethal injection in 2005.
