Legendary Ex-Dodgers Manager Tommy Lasorda Hospitalized After Suffering Heart Attack
NEW YORK (WFAN) - Former Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda, 84, has been hospitalized in New York after suffering a heart attack on Monday, the Dodgers confirmed on Tuesday.
The heart attack was not considered to be overly serious, and the Dodgers' special advisor to the chairman could very well be released from the hospital on Wednesday, the team reported.
A stent was put in to relieve extensive blockage in one artery and he's said to be to be resting comfortably at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He could be released by Wednesday.
Lasorda, a three-time World Series Champion, managed the Dodgers from 1976 to 1996. He was named National League Manager of the Year twice, once in 1983 and then again in 1988.
The former Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher was the recipient of the Branch Rickey Award in 2006, which is given out annually to a member of the baseball community who has displayed exceptional community service.
The Norristown, Pennsylvania native was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997.
