Lazio Mulls GOP Leaders' Pressure To Quit
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP / WCBS 880 / CBS 2) -- State Conservative Party Chairman Michael Long said he's discussing whether party nominee Rick Lazio will drop out of the governor's race. That could consolidate forces behind Carl Paladino, the Tea Party Republican who won last week's primary.

Long said he didn't know if Lazio was going to announce his decision Wednesday. He's scheduled to speak at a gathering of newspaper editors during the New York Associated Press annual meeting near Albany.
Long said he expected more discussions with Lazio later in the day before they decide.
Lazio's spokesman had said Tuesday that efforts by state Republican Chairman Ed Cox and other leaders to get the former congressman to drop the Conservative line were "inconsequential."
