Lawyer On The Run Captured In Cuba After Woman Found Dead In Home
MONTCLAIR, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A New Jersey lawyer is under arrest, accused of killing his girlfriend after being flagged by international police in Cuba.
James Ray III, 55, was taken into custody Tuesday after being on the run for two weeks. He had fled to Mexico in order to enter Cuba, reports CBS2's Alice Gainer.
Police say Ray faces murder charges in the death of 44-year-old Angela Bledsoe. She was found shot to death Oct. 23 inside their Montclair home where they lived with their young child.
Authorities say police responding to a wellness check found Bledsoe suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Interpol agents flagged Ray in Cuba on Oct. 28 and contacted the FBI about picking him up.
"This is a case that has disrupted our community, horrified our community in many ways, and we're hoping this arrest will bring some level of closure," said Montclair Township Mayor Robert Jackson.
The two had a child together who is now in the care of family members.
Ray's next court appearance has been scheduled for Nov. 13.
