Lawmaker: Huntington Station Shot Spotter System Not Actually Hooked Up
HUNTINGTON STATION, NY (WCBS 880) - The shot spotter system cost over $500,000 to be installed in Huntington Station and four other communities within Suffolk County.

But legislator Jon Cooper said that although sensors were installed, the system does not work without computers - and the police department did not have the $6,000 needed for the seven desktop computers necessary.
So when three teens were shot and injured over the weekend, the shot spotter system was no help to officers.
"Because the police department ran out of money, they actually reached out to my office to see if we could find $6,322," Cooper told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall.
The police department told Hall that although seven surplus computers were found, they are no longer needed because of an upgrade in the county's computer system.
The shot spotter system should be up and running by next week.
