Lavin On WFAN: St. John's Making Argument For Tourney
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Red Storm head coach Steve Lavin joined Evan Roberts on Friday to talk about St. John's sudden resurgence in NCAA relevance.
St. John's took control in an 89-72 victory over No. 10 Connecticut on Thursday, the Red Storm's fourth win over a top-13 team this season at the Garden.
"We are pleased with the kids' efforts," Lavin said. "There's some quality wins, naturally there's some losses we'd like to have back."
If you're a top 10 team and you have plans on visiting New York, avoid Madison Square Garden.
"There are the positives. Notre Dame and Georgetown and at West Virginia, the Duke game and now UConn," Lavin said. "So we are building our resume, our body of work, or as they say, an argument to the selection committee."

Lavin said that the Red Storm has a leg up in the selection process because of "quality wins" over top opponents.
"Here's what we have going for us, we have the number one or number two strength of schedule in the country," Lavin explained.
The bottom line for Lavin, St. John's just has to win in order to "control our own destiny."
"We've got to win games," said the coach. "If you keep winning games, you take the decision out of the selection committee's hands."
An added bonus to finishing the season strong? According to Lavin, it's a good night's sleep.
"You get better rest on the eve of Selection Sunday if you know you've taken care of business in terms of how you finished."
