Lavin Adds Signee No. 5 To First Recruiting Class
NEW YORK (AP) — First-year St. John's coach Steve Lavin has added another highly regarded player to his first recruiting class.
Sir Dominic Pointer, a native of Detroit who plays at Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem, N.C., signed with the Red Storm on Thursday. The 6-foot-6 Pointer, regarded as a top-60 player by most recruiting services, averaged 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.8 assists as a junior. He is considered a standout defender at small forward.
On Wednesday, Lavin announced the signings of 6-8 swingman Maurice Harkless of South Kent (Conn.), 6-3 guard D'Angelo Harrison of Sugar Land, Texas, 6-7 forward Jakarr Sampson of Brewster Academy (N.H.) and point guard Nurideen Lindsey of Redlands C.C. (Okla.).
The former UCLA coach and ESPN broadcaster took over the St. John's program in April.
