NEW YORK (WFAN) -- After his two hits against Tampa Bay helped to put an end to the Yankees' six-game losing streak Tuesday night, Jorge Posada said he felt happy being back in the lineup with his teammates.
And he wasn't the only happy one.
Posada's wife Laura called this week "really tough," as she revealed to CBSNewYork details of the nightmare that unfolded for her family last Saturday when her husband asked out of his team's lineup before they faced the Boston Red Sox.
The day started out normal, his wife said. But before she knew it, life "was like a horror movie."
"Everything happened so fast," she said. "I wasn't really expecting it."
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman met with reporters for a mid-game press conference during Saturday's debacle to discount any rumors of injury to the five-time All-Star. Meanwhile, Mrs. Posada took to Twitter to publicize that her husband couldn't play due to back pain.
She admits that her actions might have been a mistake.
"It was tough for me because I was in Miami and he was here, alone in New York," Posada's wife said. "I didn't really know how to handle the situation. I don't think there's ever been a manual that tells you what to do in a situation like this."
While the drama has seemingly subsided, many are wondering if the fiasco will cause a rift between the 39-year-old Yankee legend and the team's management.
Mrs. Posada isn't worried.
"We're family," Posada said of the Yankee brass. "We grew up with the Yankees. I started coming to games 12, 13 years ago when I was just his girlfriend, and now we're married and two kids later. With every family there's gonna be a disagreement."
And it's time to move on.
"It was a day he wishes he could take back. When Jorge came in on Sunday, he had had time to clear his head and realized maybe could've handled himself in a better manner," she said. "He apologized to Cash. It's time to put that behind us, and just move forward and win a championship."
She called the standing ovation her husband received at home Sunday - one day after the embarrassing blunder – one of the highlights from his baseball career.
"It's a moment I won't ever forget," she said.
Mrs. Posada, a fitness activist with a background as an attorney and a publicist, has published a book, Fit Home Team, on the importance of raising a healthy and active family.
When she offers parenting advice, she primarily stresses the necessity of teaching children by example. She said she and her husband can use this mistake "and many other mistakes that I've probably made" as lessons for their two kids.
"There's never enough mistakes, right?"
Try telling that one to Yankee fans.
