Large Water Main Break In Washington Heights Leads To Gas Main Problem
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 12-inch water main break caused major problems in Washington Heights.
The main broke just before noon on Friday at West 152 Street and Saint Nicholas Avenue, causing a big sinkhole and flooding the street. The water has been shut off, but about 150 customers were without water.

As a result, there was no service on the B or D trains between the 145th and 167th Street stations earlier Friday.

The flow of water also led to a gas main break in the area. One resident said she has been smelling gas in the area for a while.
'The gas smell is awful. This smell has been going on for about two months, you just smelled it. You didn't see none of this, but you smelled the gas a while ago," said Washington Heights' Latesha Vargas.
Con Edison is urging anyone who smells gas to immediately contact them at 1-800-75-Con Ed.
