Lap4Life Annual Run/Walk To Help Raise Funds For Rare Condition

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The fifth annual Lap4Life run is set for Saturday, June 22.

The run/walk raises money to help battle a rare condition that has no cure.

The non-profit organization was founded by Maddalena Casabianca-Reade and Brian Reade.

"Lap4Life was really born out of a love for a brother. Maddalena started this organization for her brother Angelo. Angelo was a respected community doctor, he was a loving father of three young children and he suffered from a rare disease called a desmoid tumor," Reade told CBS 2's Dick Brennan.

Following a nine-year battle and a small intestine transplant, Angelo died of his condition at the age of 39.

"Lap4Life goes on in his memory and all the proceeds for the foundation go to the New York Organ Donor Network and the Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation," Reade told Brennan.

Casabianca-Reade said the event has something for everyone.

"In addition to a four-mile run/walk, kids fun run, we have a large community health fair,"

The event also features food, live music and a silent auction.

The run/walk will be held June 22 at Chadwick Lake Park in Newburgh, N.Y.
