Departures Resume At LaGuardia Terminal C After Power Outage
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Delta Air Lines flights have resumed at LaGuardia Airport's Terminal C after an hourslong power outage resulted in dozens of cancellations.
The first departures began around 10:30 a.m. Friday. Residual delays were expected into late morning or early afternoon.
Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman said power went out at 4:30 a.m. when a contractor accidentally cut two electric feeders.
The outage affected Delta's communication system, the jet bridges leading from the terminal to the airplanes and parking lots 4 and 5. Delta said about 120 flights were canceled and that delays averaged about 3 hours.
Flight Disruptions At LaGuardia Due To Power Problem At Terminal C
Thousands of passengers scrambled to make alternate plans.
"I'm not happy about it," Breanna Lunsford from Denver told CBS2's Ilana Gold.
"I'm aggravated," a passenger named Yolanda told WCBS 880's Alex Silverman as she walked to another terminal to rebook her flight. "I'm trying to tell everybody else because we're going for a family reunion, so I have to warn everybody else ahead of time."
Dale Eves got a text from the airline saying it rebooked his flight to Orlando, but that meant a later take off and an added connection which will get him to Florida five hours later than he planned.
"I've been on the road all week," he said.
But not everyone made it to their final destination.
"Very disappointed," said Merrick resident Carla Russo, who was headed to West Palm Beach with her kids to visit their grandparents."We got to the airport, found out the computers were down and our flight was canceled."
Power was restored to the jet bridges at 8:30 a.m. and Delta's communication system at 9:45 a.m.
US Airways, which uses the terminal, wasn't affected.
