L.I. Teen Makes Bail In Crash That Killed Four Of His Friends
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - The teenager accused of crashing into trees along the Southern State Parkway and killing four of his friends is now out on bail.
Joseph Beer, 17, is accused of being high on marijuana and speeding when he crashed his brand new car into trees along the highway on October 8.
None of the victims' family members were in court, but Beer was outside the courthouse drinking a cup of coffee before his court appearance in Nassau County.
The judge had originally set bail at $2 million, but after Beer's lawyer appealed, the court reduced bail to $250,000 and Beer's parents were able to post the money.

"We felt the bail was a little high under the circumstances. So we brought what's called a writ of habeas corpus and has the bail lowered," Beer's attorney, Todd Greenberg, told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall.
Does he expect this case to go to trial?
"We're discussing the case, exploring all avenues how to resolve it," Greenberg said.
Although Beer himself declined to comment, Greenberg said he has been in contact with the victims' families.
"There has been some contact, but I'd rather not get into that at this point," Greenberg said.
