L.I. School Shuttered Amid Violence Set To Re-Open
HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A Long Island school that was shut down three years ago will reopen to students next week.
Workers were busy Tuesday inside the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School in Huntington Station, getting it ready for students to return.
The school was shut down three years ago after there were 13 shootings, two stabbings and two murders nearby.

As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, crime has dropped 19 percent since 2010.
"One of the things that was at bigger issue in the community was just the perception of safety wasn't there and I think that that has returned. I would be proud to send my children there," Suffolk County legislator William Spencer told Hall.
The Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School - which specializes in science, technology, engineering and math - will welcome third to fifth graders when the school year begins on Sept. 4.
"Typically, these are what we call project-based schools and the way that they teach is through problem-solving skills by having them work on projects and solving a particular problem," Spencer told Hall.
More than 300 parents applied for their children to attend the school.
