After fleeing the scene, authorities said a second car was waiting for them on Northern Blvd. and the suspects jumped in and were chased by police. On the Long Island Expressway, the suspects rammed a police car before crashing into the barrier, causing them to flee on foot.
Two of the suspects were arrested at the golf course in Lake Success and two more were taken into custody on Hewlett Avenue in Queens, just over the city line.
"They were all similarly dressed -- they appeared to have on these blue colored suits and they were wearing masks. As they went into the store, they ordered everyone down. They began to smash the counter tops," said Nassau County Detective Lt. Kevin Smith.
Thirteen employees and one customer were inside the store at the time of the robbery. No one was hurt. Meanwhile, some of the stolen merchandise was recovered and police also recovered one gun.
"It's in my backyard, the cops, and they left the door open. I didn't know what was going on," one resident told CBS 2's Jennifer McLogan.
"I was shocked because this is such a nice neighborhood," another resident said.
Schools in Great Neck were put on lock down as a precaution.
A woman named Debbie who worked next door said the jewelry store workers ran in, looking for help.
"The people here were in shock, hysterical," she told 1010 WINS' Terry Sheridan.
