L.I. Police Officers Rescue Woman About To Jump Off Bridge
WEST ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Two police officers on Long Island rescued a woman who was poised to jump off a bridge Monday morning.
As 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported, Suffolk County police Marine Bureau Officers Don Lettieri and Kevin Krause were on routine patrol in a police truck near the Robert Moses Causeway bridge, which connects West Islip to Captree Island, Jones Beach Island, and Fire Island. A passerby alerted the officers to the woman on the bridge around 10:55 a.m.

"A car pulled up to us, and told us they saw a lady out of the car, the car parked on the bridge, and she seemed very upset," Lettieri said.
Around the same time, the woman's family called 911 after noticing a Facebook post indicating that the woman was planning to commit suicide at the location, police said.
Lettieri and Krause found the woman trying to climb over the bridge wall.
"Thankfully, my partner Kevin's really quick. He got out of the car," Lettieri said.
"I physically pulled her from the railing, and she kind of resisted at first, and then she turned and hugged us," Krause said.
Krause said they do not know what was troubling the 43-year-old woman, who cried all the way to Stony Brook University Hospital.
The officers said they were glad they happened to be there. Had the witness called 911 and waited for officers to arrive, they said, it could have taken 15 minutes and it could have been too late.
