L.I. Man Accused Of Driving Drunk With Woman, 11-Year-Old Boy In Car
HOLBROOK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Long Island alleged Sunday that a man was drunk when he was pulled over with a friend and her 11-year-old son in the car with him.
Juan Campos, 32, was driving a 1991 Dodge Stealth west on the Sunrise Highway near exit 52 in Holbrook, when he was pulled over by Highway Patrol Officer Henry Coleman for allegedly failing to maintain his lane, Suffolk County police said.
Campos, of Bellport, had a 28-year-old woman and her 11-year-old son in the car with him, police said.
Police alleged Campos was drunk when he was arrested, and charged him with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child 15 years old or younger – also known as Leandra's Law. Campos was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation and endangering the welfare of a child, and received three traffic tickets, police said.
Campos was to be held overnight at the Suffolk County police Fifth Precinct station, and was to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
