LISTEN: 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera reports
Authorities said the suspect who goes by the name "Marvin" has now been linked by DNA evidence -- left from the Long Island attack -- to a gruesome crime in Laredo, Texas, 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera reported.
The suspect is accused of violently sexually assaulting a 2-year-old girl, Detective Lieutenant Raymond Cote said Tuesday.
In the July attack, police said the suspect used a metal hammer to beat a 51-year-old Hempstead woman, who complained about his poor work fixing her toilet. The woman suffered a skull fracture and brain damage.
"I think it's terrible...I hope they catch the guy who's doing it," the victim's neighbor Rick Shaw told CBS 2's Jennifer McLogan.
"It's scary nowadays. You don't invite anybody into your home to do anything these days," neighbor Mary Magro said.
Police officials said the suspect is 5'2'', walked with a limp and possibly had an injured left hand.
Rivera reported that "Marvin" was last seen at the Home Depot in Hempstead one week ago looking for work as a day laborer.
Police are asking anyone with information to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
