L.I. Couple, Georgia Man Accused Of Gun Trafficking
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island couple and Georgia man are facing gun trafficking charges following a six-month investigation in Suffolk County.
Shawdale Frederick, 32, and Janet Lewis, 33, both of Middle Island, and Joshua Galbert, 31, of Marietta, Ga., will be arraigned Monday in Suffolk County court in Riverhead.
Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said the three are accused of running handguns up I-95 from Georgia to Long Island.

"Criminal interstate firearms trafficking is a widespread and expanding plague," Spota said. "We encountered large caliber, more lethal handguns in .9mm and .40 calibers from Georgia that were purchased during this investigation by gun team detectives during eleven covert buys. The detectives in our Gun Suppression Team will continue their important work to disrupt the flow of illegal guns into Suffolk County and the New York metropolitan area."
Over 50 handguns, bulletproof vests and a .22 caliber gun with a silencer were purchased by detectives during the investigation, Spota said.
"Now what do you use a .22 weapon and a silencer for? Executions. That's what you use it for. You use it to kill people," Spota told reporters.
