L.I. Couple Arrested In String Of Jewelry Store Thefts
DEER PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island couple has been arrested in connection with a string of jewelry store thefts over the past month in Suffolk County, police said.
An officer arrested 45-year-old Kristie Laird and 32-year-old Daniel Cimonlonski during a routine traffic stop Wednesday afternoon in Deer Park for active warrants and drug possession charges, police said.
Investigators later determined Cimolonski was allegedly responsible for thefts at Tourneau Walt Whitman in Huntington Station, Golden Island Jewelry in Commack, Zales Jewelers in Deer Park and Diamond Exchange Jeweler in Medford.
Laird was charged as an accomplice in one of the robberies, police said.
Both face charges of grand larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Cimolonski faces an additional charge of resisting arrest and has also been accused of stealing money from a man at a Burger King in Bay Shore on Tuesday, police said.
Police believe the couple may be responsible for similar jewelry store thefts in Nassau County.
