L.I. Bridge Being Renamed In Honor Of Fallen NYPD Cop
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A bridge on Long Island is being renamed in honor of a fallen New York City police officer.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation designating the bridge on State Route 109 in West Babylon as the "New York City Police Department Detective Peter Figoski Memorial Bridge."
Figoski was a 22-year veteran of the NYPD and a resident of West Babylon. He was fatally shot while responding to a robbery in Brooklyn back in 2011.
"Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Detective Peter Figoski. With the help of Gov. Cuomo and our colleagues in government, this dedication is a fitting tribute which will ensure that the memory of a remarkable hero will last forever," Assemblyman Joseph Saladino said in a statement.
Figoski was posthumously promoted to Detective by the NYPD and was awarded the department's Medal of Honor.
