Wake To Be Held For 24-Year-Old Victim Of Bronx Halloween Crash
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A wake will be held in the Bronx Tuesday for one of the victims who was killed when a vehicle slammed into a group of trick-or-treaters on Halloween.
Services for 24-year-old Kristian Leka will be held at Farenga Bros. Funeral Home on Allerton Avenue starting at 2 p.m. His funeral is scheduled for Wednesday in Hartsdale.
Leka's girlfriend Greta Luka said he shoved her to the ground and pushed his 9-year-old sister out of the way to save her when the black Dodge Charger jumped a curb, plowing into pedestrians on the sidewalk.
"I just remember the big black car coming towards us and then a big shove from him to push us over," Luka told CBS2. "He definitely, definitely saved our lives."
Ten-year-old Nyanna Aquil and her grandfather, 65-year-old Louis Perez, were also killed in the Saturday crash. Their services have not been finalized.
Investigators now believe the driver, 52-year-old Howard Unger, may have had a seizure behind the wheel. Police said he takes two medications for seizures, but hadn't had an episode in 12 years.
The investigation is ongoing.
