Kobe On Dec. 25 Game Vs. Knicks: 'We Might Win On Christmas For First Time Ever'
NEW YORK (WFAN) - Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant is focusing on helping the USA Men's Basketball team win a Gold Medal at the Olympics right now, but that doesn't mean that the upcoming NBA season isn't in the back of his mind.
Bryant was asked about the Knicks' Christmas matchup against the Lakers next season while in London, according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, and he couldn't help but respond with some trash talk against Olympic teammate Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks.
"We actually might win on Christmas Day for the first time ever," Bryant said.
The comment was made in jest, Isola reported, but Bryant will unquestionably be playing with extra juice that day when New York visits the Staples Center in front of a nationally-televised audience.
The Knicks and the Lakers split their season series in 2011-12, with the Lakers crushing the Knicks in Los Angeles on December 29 and the Knicks gaining revenge at Madison Square Garden on February 10.
Aside from their meeting on December 25 next season, the Lakers will visit MSG twelve days earlier for the only other meeting between the two squads in 2012-13.
