Knicks Waive Injured Guard Kelenna Azubuike
NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — The Knicks have waived guard Kelenna Azubuike, who never played for the team while recovering from major knee surgery.
Azubuike was acquired from Golden State on July 9 in the sign-and-trade deal that sent David Lee to the Warriors. He was expected to be ready early in the season after missing the last 73 games in 2009-10, but never got into a game despite saying recently he believed he was close.
The move Monday opens a roster spot for a Knicks team that is looking to add size. New York couldn't get any through a trade at the deadline, but team president Donnie Walsh said the Knicks would try to do so through free agency. Former Knicks forward Jared Jeffries, bought out last week by Houston, is a likely option.
