Knicks' Steve Novak, James White To Participate In ASG Competitions
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Knicks forwards Steve Novak and James White will take part in NBA All-Star Game competitions on February 16 in Houston, the NBA announced on Thursday night.
Novak will compete in the three-point shootout. The 6-foot-10, 235-pounder will be up against Kyrie Irving of the Cavaliers, Ryan Anderson of the Hornets, Paul George of the Pacers, Matt Bonner of the Spurs and Stephen Curry of the Warriors.
"He may be the best shooter in the league," Charles Barkley, who has been known to criticize the Knicks in the past, said in regard to Novak on TNT.
White will participate in the slam dunk contest. The second-year player will attempt to outperform Eric Bledsoe of the Clippers, Jeremy Evans of the Jazz, Kenneth Faried of the Nuggets, Gerald Green of the Pacers and Terrence Ross of the Raptors.
The 'Bockers will also be well-represented on Sunday night during the main event, as Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler will play for the Eastern Conference All-Star team.
Novak is averaging 6.9 points, 0.5 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 22.3 minutes per game for New York. He is shooting .44 percent from the three-point line.
White, in his first year with the Atlantic Division leaders, is averaging 1.8 points, 0.3 assists and 0.8 rebounds in 6.7 minutes per game.
Across town, Nets center Brook Lopez -- along with Heat power forward/center Chris Bosh -- has been selected to represent the Eastern Conference in the 2013 Sears Shooting Stars on the same evening.
Lopez, who was named an All-Star for the first time this season, is averaging 18.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.2 blocks for Brooklyn.
