Report: Knicks Add Richardson To Raptors-Bargnani Trade
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — The Knicks have agreed in principle to bring former Toronto Raptors No. 1 pick Andrea Bargnani to New York, according to Newsday.
The Knicks' push to land the forward from Italy was put on hold Sunday when a deal was not completed.
After adding Quentin Richardson to the mix on Monday, the two teams reportedly have an agreement. The Knicks will send Marcus Camby, Richardson, Steve Novak, a 2016 first-round pick and second-rounders in 2014 and 2017 to pry Bargnani from Toronto, according to Newsday.
The original deal was not approved for salary reasons. Now, the only thing holding up the trade is the NBA's moratorium. The swap is expected to go through on July 10.
Early Monday morning, Novak posted a thank you to Knicks fans on his Twitter account and "Next stop ... Toronto."
Bargnani was the top pick of the 2006 draft but the Raptors have made just one playoff appearance since drafting him.
He averages 15.2 points for his career, but dropped to just 12.7 per game last season while playing in only 35 games, missing the last month with a sprained right elbow. The 7-footer averages just 4.8 rebounds for his career and largely plays on the perimeter in Toronto, but his 3-point shooting percentage tumbled to about 30 percent in each of the last two seasons.
Bargnani has two years and about $22.2 million remaining on his contract.
On Twitter, Ken Berger of CBSSports.com said the Knicks' push to acquire Bargnani was "viewed by other team execs as predictable response to rival Nets' spending spree."
The Brooklyn Nets traded for Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce in a draft night mega-deal with the Boston Celtics last week.
The Knicks waived reserve guard James White earlier Sunday.
