Kevan Abrahams Jumps Into Race For Long Island U.S. House Seat
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Nassau County legislator has thrown his hat into the ring in the U.S. House race on Long Island.
Kevan Abrahams, the Nassau County legislative minority leader, told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall if he's elected to Congress, he would stand up for the middle class and for society's most vulnerable.
The 39-year-old Democrat is running for the seat currently held by Democratic Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, who is retiring.

"The issues that I want to be able to tackle are going to be property taxes, immigration reform, education, pay inequities among women," Abrahams said. "These are all things are very vital."
Abraham's said he's proud of his track record of "bringing in millions and millions of dollars for taxpayers so that we can stave off tax increases."
His likely Democratic primary opponent will likley be Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice.
Republicans are also preparing for a potential primary. Bruce Blakeman, the county Legislature's former presiding officer, and attormey Frank Scaturro both want the job.
