Kelly Won't Credit Weather For New York City Going Eight Days Without Homicide
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - There is a statistic worth noting in New York City on this Friday. The city has gone eight days without a homicide. There hasn't been one since before Wednesday, January 16.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said he likes it and he welcomes it, but doesn't seem convinced that the frigid weather is the reason for more than a week of no killing in the city.
"You know that's always, that's sort of the anecdotal answer that we have in policing the cold weather or rain... sometimes yes, sometimes no," Kelly told WCBS 880 reporter Rich Lamb. "It's always a complex issue. It's difficult to point to any one factor. But we're happy it's what it is."

"We've seen it where people who are forced to be inside as a result of the weather get violent," he said.
But the commissioner did note that after superstorm Sandy the city also experienced a week without homicides.
He added that any respite from violence and murders, whatever the cause, is a welcome thing.
