Kelly: NYPD Taking More Precautions This Holiday Season
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/CBS 2) – After a mysterious package at the Newark International Airport and a strange van parked across from the Israeli mission both turned out to be nothing, New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly is not taking chances this holiday season.
These are the kinds of incidents that make the NYPD keep its guard up, Kelly said. New Yorkers and the police must be alert and vigilant.

Kelly has last year's Christmas incident to remind him what could happen.
"We had the incident of Flight 253 going into Detroit. Omar Abdulmutallab was arrested for the underwear bomb that he had in his possession," Kelly said.
With Christmas just days away, Kelly said we have to be mindful of anything suspicious.
"You know you always hear this chatter as it's called about the holidays and around holiday time. In the U.K. today, they just arrested 12 Bangladeshis," Kelly said. "We follow these cases closely. We have no specific threats against New York City."
The NYPD will be adding extra security this week just to be on the safe side.
