Keep It In The Family: Jets Sign Safety Dawan Landry, Brother Of LaRon
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Gang Green will still have a Landry on its roster in 2013.
The Jets have signed safety Dawan Landry, the older brother of ex-Jet LaRon Landry, the team announced on Tuesday.
The organization did not disclose the terms of the contract.
Dawan Landry, the older of the two brothers, was cut by the Jaguars prior to the start of free agency. The 30-year-old played with the Ravens from 2006-2010 before signing a five-year deal with Jacksonville in 2011.
He played under Jets head coach Rex Ryan and defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman as a member of the Ravens.
The former fifth-round pick played in all 16 games for the Jags in 2012, accumulating 100 tackles and an interception.
LaRon Landry, who left the Jets to sign a four-year, $24 million contract with the Colts on March 13, congratulated his older brother on Twitter, tweeting: "My big bro just sent me a text sayin 'Jet life to da next life'.. congrats big bro."
Dawan Landry fills a need for the Jets, who are currently paper thin at the safety position. In addition to LaRon Landry leaving New York via free agency, Yeremiah Bell signed with the Cardinals on March 13. The team also released backup Eric Smith on February 19.
Prior to signing the elder Landry, the only safeties on New York's roster were Antonio Allen and Josh Bush, both of whom were drafted late in the 2012 NFL Draft.
In seven NFL seasons, Dawan Landry has recorded 559 tackles, three forced fumbles and 12 interceptions.
