Junior's Celebrates 60 Years With 60 Cent Cheesecake
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/CBS 2) -- One of Brooklyn's most famous restaurants, Junior's, is celebrating its 60th anniversary Tuesday.
Junior's will be selling slices of its world famous New York-style original cheesecake for 60 cents all day and if you decide to dine at the original Flatbush Avenue location you can get a free slice with breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The celebration will also include a bake-off to determine the winner of Junior's Next Great Cheesecake Flavor Recipe Contest. The top three national finalists, from more than 500 submissions, will go head to head in front of a panel of judges and one New Yorker being selected at random.
The winner will receive a $1,800 prize and his or her cheesecake will be sold at Junior's Restaurant. Portions of the proceeds from the winning cheesecake sales will also be donated to a selected charity.
A special 60th Anniversary Cheesecake -- a chocolate covered cheesecake -- will also be sold for one day only for $19.50.
The Brooklyn restaurant first opened its doors on Election Day in 1950.
"My grandfather said, 'If we're going to be a great restaurant in New York we have to have great cheesecake,'" Alan Rosen, the third-generation owner of Junior's, told 1010 WINS. "He, my father and my uncle literally went around and tasted and tested different cheesecakes and hit upon this magic formula and it hasn't changed ever since."
Junior's sells about 5,000 cheesecakes a week ranging in weight from 5 ounces to 5 pounds.
