In Manhattan, a line of mostly well-dressed job seekers stretched around the perimeter of the Harlem Armory.
"Shows you the amount of people that are looking for work," 59-year-old Luis Montose of the Bronx told Diamond. "A lot of people out of work and I've been unemployed since 2009."
For him, the outlook is grim.

For Alphonso Johnson of Jersey City, things are a bit brighter.
"Two and a half, three years ago, I wasn't able to get like any interviews or anything, but since March I've had like at least five interviews. This seems like a pretty good career fair," he said.
Caremark drugstores, Whole Foods Market, and TD Bank were among the 375 employers at that fair and other fairs in the five boroughs plus and Westchester County, with 10,000 job openings statewide.
TD Bank showed an interest in 20-year-old Patrick Adams, a psychology student at SUNY Old Westbury.
"I need to start now because the jobs market is a bit scarce right now," Adams told Diamond.
