Dozens showed up in suits for the event.
Leon Dixon has been looking for a job since November, when he was laid off from a New York City hotel.
"I am looking for a sous chef / chef position in the kitchen. I've been doing it for 15 years," he said.
Peggy Bornhoff was laid off in October from a part-time position at a law firm.
"I'm looking for a full-time job. There doesn't seem a lot of companies offering full-time jobs," she lamented.
Susan Grieco, who is the spokesperson for the job fair at the Marriott in Uniondale, told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall that a lot of sales jobs are available.
"People say that they can't sell. They're selling themselves every time they walk into this room. So, that's what the people want to see. They want to see that they have a personality and they have what it takes to be a salesperson. Those seem to be the most valuable jobs out there right now because there's such a turnover, I guess," she said.
She says people do get hired from job fairs.
"These vendors pay to be here. So, they are really looking for candidates, and they're not paying unless they're gonna be hiring," said Grieco.
