'See Me At The Cape:' JFK's Final Love Letter To Mistress Up For Auction
BOSTON (NEW YORK/AP) -- An intimate letter written by John F. Kennedy to a purported paramour seeking to set up a liaison is one of several Kennedy-related items being sold at auction.
The four-page letter to Mary Pinchot Meyer was written about a month before his assassination. It's signed simply "J.''
It reads in part: "Why don't you leave suburbia for once -- come and see me -- either here --or at the Cape next week or in Boston the 19th.'' It goes on to say that such a meeting is "unwise'' and "irrational.''
The letter is believed to be one of the last notes the former president ever wrote before he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas nearly a month later.
The online sale is being held by Boston-based RR Auction starting June 16.
RR officials say the letter wasn't sent.
It is being sold by a collector.
RR Executive Vice President Robert Livingston expects it to fetch about $30,000.
