LISTEN: Bowles Says He Didn't Get To Know Jets' Offensive Players Well Enough Last Year
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (WFAN) -- Perhaps the biggest adjustment Jets coach Todd Bowles has made from his first to second years on the job is getting to know his offensive players better.
A former NFL safety and defensive assistant coach, Bowles admitted in an interview with WFAN's Mike Francesa on Monday from Jets training camp that he spent too much time with the team's defensive players.
That fact did not go unnoticed by some members of the offense.
"I probably spent a little more time with the offensive guys (this spring)," Bowles said. "They held a grudge last year, so I've gotten to know them a lot more this spring. And we kind of have a better relationship than we had a year ago.
"I've developed a very goal relationship with (guard Brian) Winters, very good one with (guard) Wes Johnson and a bunch of those guys over there, which was different than last year where I was completely just on the defensive side of the ball. I would monitor them, but now we actually have a pretty good relationship."
Francesa also interview general manager Mike Maccagnan, defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, running back Matt Forte, cornerback Darrelle Revis, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and wide receivers Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall, as well as WFAN Jets beat writer Chris Lopresti.
