Jets Star Cornerback Revis Hauls In $1 Million Roster Bonus
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - It's unclear whether or not Darrelle Revis will be a member of the New York Jets next season. Either way, he will have earned at least $1 million from Gang Green in 2013.
On Saturday, Revis was handed a $1 million roster bonus in accordance to his contract. He will also have the opportunity to earn an additional $2 million in bonuses. Revis could receive a $1 million workout bonus in June and a $1 million reporting bonus in July.
The big question remains whether the Jets will trade Revis away to aid their rebuilding or pay the star cornerback the long-term, big-dollar contract he requires. Among teams interested are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have expressed a clear interest in dealing for Revis should the Jets be willing to listen to offers.
It will be an anxious couple months for Jets fans, who do not want to see their franchise player pulling on any other uniform except for the Jets' green and white.
If Revis is traded before June 1, the Jets will be penalized with a 2013 cap hit of $13 million. If he's traded after that date and before training camp, the cap hit will be $5 million for 2013 and $9 million in 2014. Should Revis be traded after training camp, the 2013 hit will be $6 million and $9 million for 2014.
