Jets' Ryan Stands By Sanchez, Won't Entertain What-Ifs Regarding Tebow
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Coach Rex Ryan says there's "no question" that Mark Sanchez is the Jets' starting quarterback despite struggling at times against the Houston Texans.
Sanchez has completed less than 50 percent of his passes in four straight games and many fans and media have suggested that backup Tim Tebow should take over as the starter.
Ryan said Tuesday that he won't "get into the what-ifs and all that" when asked if he'd replace Sanchez if the Jets (2-3) continue to lose.
"We're not preparing to lose, that's for sure," said Ryan. "We're thinking we're going to win starting this week. ... We're planning on having success."
Ryan thought Sanchez "played pretty good" in the Jets' 23-17 loss to Houston on Monday night. He cited three dropped passes and four tips as skewing Sanchez's final stats: 14 of 31 for 230 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.
"I thought he was accurate with the football," he said.
